Solving problems

Questions & Answers

  • The app runs without ultrasound microphone. But the built in mic of the iPad or iPhone will not pick up bat calls. These calls are mostly outside the frequency range of bat calls.

  • While any USB microphone up to 384 kHz samplerate should work well, we have only tested the application with the USB microphones of Pettersson and AudioMoth. If you are using another microphone successfully please drop us a note so we can add it to the list.

  • Any automatic identifier for bat species will have problems in certain circumstances. For example bad quality calls will mislead due to bad measurements. Nevertheless even with optimal calls the overlap of calls between species will result in identification errors. Thus, the ID should be seen as a suggestion and not a definite positive result.

  • Currently iOS limits the playback of sound to the internal speaker while a microphone is connected. We are looking for a solution to be able to listen on headphones or airPods.

  • We are always happy to receive ideas that will help you and your work with bats in the field. Thus feel free to contact us with suggestions.
