Live sonagram and bat recording with iOS/macOS: ecoBatRec

Live sonagram and bat call recordings in an easy way. ecoBatRec for iOS and macOS is connecting to your USB ultrasound microphone and allows you to visualize live bat activity. This new app brings some of the ecoObs software technology to the iPad, iPhone (see in AppStore) and the Apple Mac (macOS version will be released summer 2025). Take your Pettersson M500-384 USB microphone and have live bat experience anywhere you go. Take recordings of your bats and analyze the calls right in the field or at home. For all mid-european bat species the app offers automatic identification using the power of Apples neuronal processors and CoreML.

Bat call recorder for bat specialists

We are developing bat analysis software since more than 20 years. We so far have focused on working with larger amounts of data and implemented tools for this. We have always developed for the Apple Mac. Now we had the opportunity to create an iOS application for bat workers. We extentet it to the Mac as well. And we are happy. This combines the superb USB microphones designed by Pettersson and our knowledge of creating specialized bat software. Visualize the bat calls in your vicinity, record call sequences and analyze calls right in the field.

Requirements

You need an iPhone or iPad running iOS 17 or newer. For macOS the requirement is macOS 12 or newer. For recording bat calls you also need a high resolution USB microphone with a samplerate of 384 kHz. We have tested the software so far with the Pettersson USB microphones, the AudioMoth microphone and the Apodemus pipistrelle mini. Note that connecting microphone and iOS/macOS device requires a cable or adapter. Some features are only available with a Pro subscription.
